Janice M. "Jan" Murfitt, 92, a Plymouth resident since 1941, passed away Wednesday morning at 4:00 a.m. on January 30, 2013 at Miller?s Merry Manor in Plymouth.
Janice was born in Bristol, South Dakota on February 14, 1920 to Melvin C. and Alea Madge (Bunn) Wagner. She graduated from Goshen High School. She received a Bachelor Degree in Education from Goshen College, and soon after, she received her Masters in Education from Indiana University.
On February 25, 1940, she married Edward L. Murfitt in South Bend, Indiana. He preceded her in death on May 3, 1984.
Janice taught school in the Plymouth Community Schools for 34 years until her retirement in 1982. She was a member of St. Thomas Church in Plymouth and the Delta Theta Tau Sorority.
In her free time, she loved to read books, collected oak rockers and dolls, loved looking at antiques and had a tremendous angel collection.
Janice is survived by her son, Philip D. (Mary Ann) Murfitt of Frankfort, Ohio; a daughter-in-law, Diane Wagner; three grandchildren, Philip D. Murfitt II of Chillicothe, Ohio, Mark P. (Jennifer) Murfitt of Hilliard, Ohio, and Rochelle Robinson of Frankfort, Ohio; and two great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Nicklaus Murfitt.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Roumelle Giorza and Bonny-Lou Al-Grecene, brothers, Jack and Ted Wagner, and son-in-law, Fred Al-Grecene.
Visitation will be from 1 ? 4 p.m. on Sunday, February 3, 2013 in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth. A Delta Theta Tau memorial rite will take place at 4 p.m in the funeral home.
Funeral services will be on Monday, February 4, 2013 in the New Oakhill Cemetery Chapel at 11:00 a.m, officiated by Fr. John E. Schramm.
Burial will in New Oakhill Cemetery.
