Eugene F. Wayman, 74, died unexpectedly at 2:41 p.m. Monday, February 19, 2007 in the St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Plymouth. A former resident of Hobart, he has made his home at Myers Lake, Plymouth for the past 17 years.
Gene was born the son of Frank and Mary Ann (Machowiak) Wayman on March 22, 1932 in East Chicago, Indiana. He was a 1951 graduate of Hammond High School.
He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict from 1952-54.
On June 6, 1953, in Harvey, Illinois he took as his bride the former Claudia C. Thornton. Together they would raise eight children.
In 1990 after 39 years of service with NIPSCO, Gene retired as a former manager and consultant. He enjoyed the many times spent with family and friends on the lake and liked fishing, a good game of golf and his hand at carpentry.
He had attended St. Michael Catholic Church, Plymouth.
Survivors include his loving wife Claudia, four sons, four daughters and eighteen grandchildren. Their children are: Michael E. (Jodi) Wayman of Valparaiso, David R. (Cookie) Wayman of Las Vegas, Patricia J. Wayman of Valparaiso, Thomas E. (Janet) Wayman of Crown Point, Robert D. (Christine) of Warsaw, and Michele E. (Jeff) Robertson, Christine M. (Gus) Rodriguez and Jacquelyn M. (Tony) Kalin all of Valparaiso.
A sister, Pearl Pazdur of Valparaiso and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Gene was preceded in death by two sons; Eugene M. Wayman (1962) and James R. Wayman (1967) along with two brothers; Edwin and Henry Wayman and a sister, Helen Stasko.
At Gene?s request his body is being bequeathed to the Anatomical Gift Association of Illinois for research and a private family gathering will be held.
