Carmen Alberta Fetters

April 18, 1915 - January 1, 2017

Carmen P. Fetters (Carmen Alberta Parker)

Born in St. Joseph County, Indiana to Olive and Emery Parker, sister to her older brother, Gordon (Bud) Parker.

She grew up in Lakeville/Lapaz area with great family devotion to County Line Brethren Church and graduating valedictorian from Lakeville High School. Graduated from Manchester College and became teacher at North Liberty High School for a brief time before marriage to John S Fetters ( also from same area but who had begun work in the South). They settled in Jacksonville, Florida with John working with Seaboard Airline Railroad and had 2 children (Gary & Judy).

Carmen devoted years to raising them (volunteering, scouting, all the children's activities) and then returned to Florida State University to obtain Masters in Library Science; whereupon she became High School Librarian for several years until retirement at age 70. Becoming widowed, she remained quite active for many years (volunteering for Meals on Wheels and other activities-daily walking, seniors activities as line dancing, 'word' class...). Her brilliant mind, optimism and persistence carried her through many more years, including her ingenuity to live independently until final illness-remaining completely mobile, living in the same house throughout her Florida years. Her constant quest for knowledge, love of family and strong faith in God carried her through her final years, resulting in only 1 final week of trials in the Hospital with a peaceful final goodbye with her lingering final wishes to join the loved ones who had passes before.

Oh, how we will miss her......our beloved mother, grand-mother (to Christie Fetters Leach, Scott Trickett, Lauryn Trickett Congedo), great grand-mother (Nathan Leach, Anna Leach, Naomi Leach, Scarlett Congedo , Katherine Trickett, Alexandra Trickett) and loving in-laws (Michael Leach, Pam Weatherly Trickett).

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, January 9, 2017 in the chapel at the Bremen Cemetery in Bremen, Indiana, with Pastor Wyatt Smith officiating. Visitation will be from 10:30 AM until time of service on Monday at the chapel.

Burial will follow in the Bremen Cemetery.
