Mary Jane Bishop

January 17, 1924 - January 26, 2003

       Mary ?Jane? Bishop, 79, of 5490 Michigan Rd. , died, following an illness, in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center , Plymouth , at 2:50 a.m. on Sunday, January 26, 2003 . She was a lifetime Plymouth resident.
      
       Jane was born January 17, 1924 in Plymouth, the daughter of Wilber Cresswell Cochran and Amanda Alanna Craig Cochran. She attended Plymouth schools.
      
       On September 20, 1941 she and Charles L. Bishop were married. Charles died on April 2, 1981.
      
       A homemaker, Jane also had worked at New World Products, Plymouth and was a former manager of Pizza King and Old Dutch dairy store.
      
       With great interest she had completed the documenting of her family?s genealogy. She enjoyed writing poetry, working jig saw puzzles and was a faithful listener to Bill and Kathy?s WTCA ?What?s Your Opinion? morning show.
      
       She crocheted, was an accomplished letter writer to friends and enjoyed her grandchildren?s many activities.
      
       A former Campfire and Bluebird leader, she was a member of the V.F.W. and American Legion Auxiliary. She was also a member of the Plymouth Garden Club and the 1st Christian Church of Plymouth.
      
       Jane is survived by three sons and a daughter: Wayne (Pam) Bishop, Argos; Stephen L. Bishop; Mark D. (Gail) Bishop; and Alanna L. (Larry) Heet, all of Plymouth.
      
       Fourteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren survive as well.
      
       A sister, Joan Ellinger, Plymouth, and Sue Hawley, a sister-in-law of Monticello, Ind., survives together with numerous nieces and nephews.
      
       Jane was preceded in death by her parents and by three brothers and two sisters. The brothers were: Bert, Leotis and Donovan Cochran. Her sisters were: Zenobie Scott and Julia Cochran.
      
       Family services were held on Tuesday, January 28, 2003 , in the New Oakhill Chapel. The Rev. Tony Schneiders of the Walnut Church of the Brethren, Argos , officiated.
      
       Interment was in New Oakhill Cemetery .
      
       Gifts in Jane?s memory may be made to the American Heart Association.
