Henry Ray "Hank" Mansfield, 82, passed away March 7, 2014 at Memorial Hospital of South Bend due to complications from a two vehicle accident south of Plymouth back on November 1, 2013.
Born in Glasgow, Kentucky, Ray was the son of Mack and Mary Melissa Ellen Goode Mansfield.
Ray was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged on November 1, 1960.
On May 3, 1955, Ray married Kathryn B. Mason. The couple moved to the Plymouth area in 1961. Kathryn would precede Ray in death as a result of the accident on November 1, 2013.
Ray did road construction in and around the Plymouth area. He then worked in the shipping and receiving department, as well as a truck driver, for 25 years for Ben Hill Griffen before his retirement in 1992. After retirement he still drove truck for Pasquale in Valparaiso part-time.
Ray was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 27 and Veterans of Foreign War- Marshall County Post 1162 and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles. He was also a member of the Plymouth Moose Lodge 741.
Ray loved time spent with his loving wife Kathryn and their families. They enjoyed camping, riding motorcycle, fishing and mushroom hunting. He could always be found tinkering around the house.
Henry is survived by his sisters: Gladys E. Thomas, Lena Britt and Ruby N. (Bennie) Anderson, all of Glasgow, KY. He is also survived by his sister-in-law and brother-in-laws: Bill D. Hill of Columbus, IN, Sarah B. (Andy) Waltz of Paris, IL, Floyd W. (Deb) Hartwell of Rochester, IN and Carl A. (Pam) Hartwell of Seymour, IN, as well as, several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, William L. Mansfield, and mother-in-law, Alma B. Hartwell.
Visitation for Ray and Kathryn will be from 5 ? 8 p.m. on Friday, March 14, 2014 in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan Street, Plymouth. Members of the Plymouth Moose Lodge 741 will offer a memorial service at 7:30 p.m.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 15, 2014 in the funeral home, officiated by Rev. Chuck Krieg.
Burial will follow in the New Oakhill Cemetery with Military Honors provided by members of the American Legion Post 27, Veterans of Foreign War- Marshall County Post 1162 and D.A.V.
