Joanne T. Winter

October 13, 1933 - November 9, 2002

       Joanne Therese Winter, 69, 1709 Westgate Ave., Plymouth, a 44-year resident of the city, coming from the Chicago area, died of natural causes in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center , Plymouth , at 11:10 p.m. , Saturday, Nov. 9, 2002 .
      
       One of the lovely things she will be remembered for is her love of, and pride in, her children and grandchildren. Her caring for others, so moved her family, as to enroll her in the American Red Cross Donor Program following her sudden death.
      
       Born in Chicago, Ill., the daughter of Elmer and Hildegard Hanley Knudsen on Oct. 13, 1933, she graduated from Chicago Vocational High School with the class of 1951.
      
       On May 26, 1951, in Chicago, Joanne and William E. Winter were married. Bill was an accomplished Plymouth photographer for many years and Joanne was his faithful assistant. An artist in her own right, one of her accomplishments was, before the advent of color photography, to color with oil paints, black and white photographs. Her husband Bill died on Nov. 21, 1998.
      
       Over the past 23 years Joanne assisted her daughter with the daycare center she provided in her home.
      
       A handy person, she enjoyed painting still life pictures with water colors. She enjoyed shopping and respite at the family?s Myers Lake property.
      
       She was a member of St. Michael Roman Catholic Church, Plymouth and the Women of the Moose #1355.
      
       Joanne is survived by two sons, a daughter and their families. The sons are William Joseph (Ellen) Winter, Baton Rouge, La.; and Daniel Edward (Deborah) Winter, Valparaiso, Ind. Her daughter is Therese A. (Eugene) Ley, Plymouth.
      
       Six beloved grandchildren also survive. They are: Daniel P. and Emily W. Ley, Plymouth; William R. and Matthew D. Winter, Baton Rouge, La.; Benjamin R. and Mark D. Winter, of Valparaiso, Ind.
      
       Six nieces and three nephews survive as well.
      
       Joanne was preceded in death by her parents, her spouse, Andrew Winter, a grandson and James Knudsen, a brother.
      
       Visitation with the family will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2002 , in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral home, 1100 N. Michigan St. , Plymouth , and for one hour prior to services on Wednesday in the church.
      
       A Rosary will be said for Joanne at 12:15 p.m. on Wed, Nov. 13, 2002 , at St. Michael Roman Catholic Church, 625 N. Center St. , Plymouth .
      
       The Mass of Christian Burial, officiated by the Fr. Emmanuel Chikezie, will be held at St. Michael?s at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2002.
      
       Burial will be in St. Michael?s Cemetery, Plymouth .
      
       Memorial gifts in Joanne?s memory may be made to the St. Michael?s Capital Development Fund or to the American Diabetes Foundation.
