Mary Lou Gerringer Hardin

December 31, 1934 - November 4, 2007

       Mary Lou Gerringer Hardin, died of natural causes, following a brief illness, died on Sunday, Nov. 4, 2007.
      
       Mary Lou was an inspiration to everyone who knew her. She exemplified the virtues of tenacity, having a strong work ethic and the belief that no problem was too big to overcome. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
      
       Born in Waynesville, N.C. on December 21, 1934, Mary Lou was the daughter of Richard and Bess Gerringer.
      
       She graduated from Waynesville High School with the class of 1953, and from Duke University School of Nursing in 1956.
      
       Mary Lou met her husband, Jim Hardin, at Duke and following his graduation from the United States Naval Academy in 1959, they were married in the First Baptist Church, Waynesville, N.C., on June 6, 1959.
      
       She is survived by Jim, her husband of 47 years and by their son, Jonathon Jaben Hardin III of Atlanta, Ga., and a grandson, Jaben.
      
       Two sisters also survive, together with a sister-in-law and her husband, Ida and Eugene Chipman, Plymouth, Ind., and several nieces and nephews.
      
       Mary Lou was preceded in death by her parents and an infant son.
      
       She was a member of the Walnut Hills Baptist Church, Williamsburg. Memorial services will be held there on Sunday, Nov. 11, 2007.
      
       Inurnment will be in the U.S. Naval Academy Columbarium, Annapolis, Md., at a later date.
