Dear members of Gene's family. I've tried to reach a few of you over the past few years to offer my condolence's, but was not successful. Please know the following:

Gene ("Pigfoot" as we called him) was a member of the 60th AGF Band, stationed in Heidelberg, Germany. I got to know him as a good friend while playing with the unit, he on the piano and I was on drums for many sessions in various towns in Germany, France and other locales.

I contacted Gene on my return home to Montclair, NJ and agreed to make a visit to Plymouth. I met Gene's sister and attended the funeral of her husband who was killed in battle. We lost contact after my return to Montclair, and when I tried to reach him in 2012, I learned of his passing six years before that. I was blessed to have known Gene, and only wish that I could have seen him again to re-kindle to good times we had during our service years. Every time that I make ham and eggs in the morning, I remember Mrs. Kaufman making breakfast, especially when she would put lots of pepper on the eggs for us. To this day, I add pepper and say to myself: "here's to my Kafman's."
