I'm so sorry to get that news. Ida, as we all know, was a special person. I remember many times working with her on Doc. Bowen's first campaign for election. Also, when she taught a group of us how to play duplicate bridge in my dining room. I was not aware that she had made her home at Miller's. I will remember her for a long, long time.

Sincerely,

Chapman family,
I am so sorry to learn of Idas passing. When I worked at the Tribune she would pop in with a storyline. We looked forward to her humor and quick wit as she bounced around the office. Her smile was contagious. She will certainly be missed! Sincere condolences at this sad time...

I will remember Ida. She had a clear intellect, naturally friendly, always a smile. My mother also sincerely appreciated her good disposition. What a beautiful woman she was (is). A good bridge partner with her husband. Thanks for knowing her.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family. Ida was one of the most sophisticated ladies to ever reside in Plymouth. And what a fabulous family she was a member of. She reflected the love of Jesus in her every move and is in Paradise with Him now. My condolences to the loved ones she leaves behind.

Celebrating with you a long life and loving legacy... so so enjoyed every time our lives crossed with sweet Ida... Summer basketball games... Genesis 1:29 Food Cooperative... The Mustard Seed... PHS Athletics... consulting so personally and beautifully on our loved ones’ obituaries (and got to share - you “nailed it “ on her obituary- what a sweet reflection of Ida- she has to be so pleased❤️). Always loved to hear her speak and that she kept her southern drawl all these years.... Much love and many prayers in the tender days ahead...

Many years ago I was fortunate to spend an hour with Ida looking down over Marshall County in my hot air balloon as we completed the sunset flight with a splash and dash on Lake Latonka. What a wonderful life she lived as we count our blessings that we got to know her better through her gifted stories over those years. She has earned her permanent wings now, our heartfelt best wishes to family and friends she leaves behind.......

Our condolences and prayers to the entire Chipman Family. What a legacy Ida left not only to her family, but to the Plymouth Community. Among the many wonderful articles she wrote was the one she did for my families "50th Hiss Reunion" in 2011 which she called the "mother of all reunions!!" What a sense of humor she had! Ida has touched many lives and will be remembered for her many acts of kindness. RIP wonderful lady!

My pal Ida
When I was doing neighborhood news for her Hometown, Ida Chipman marched into my life.
She was a force of nature. Irrepressible.
She knew everything and everyone in that town. She was as much if a southern belle Republican as I was the son of a steelworkers Democrat. Her husband was a county official and magnificent judge. He seemed as reserved as she was not They had been on the founding team that launched a governor from small-town Indiana. She had run that campaign.
Their marriage, way back in Virginia, had been featured in a national women’s magazine. I know of no other who can say that.
When I spent a summer in Richmond, she was so delighted at me sharing her real roots that she became an internet tour guide and enriched my stay there.
I could not begin to list all of her lifetime achievement.
Here is a quick one.
One sultry summer she relaunched an NCAA approved basketball league for the boys in the area, I was the official scorekeeper. We called Gene the Commissioner. But she was in charge. It was a fun league. All the high schools within driving distance had a team. It was marvelous. It was so smart, so successful that of course no one bothered to continue it. We proved it could be done,
It now has receded into the mists of time and legend, much like the weekly documentation of real people in her Hometown has done.
She could write anything. I could rewrite anything. What a team. We could take an under-reported or badly reported story from the dailies and do it better, with more life.
And we did
She set her sights on a particular group of writers that honored women in communications. We won a hundred awards that year. They had never seen anything like the hurricane that hit them
It is hard to express what it was like in her presence. You felt like a bomb of energy was about to go off. It was better than any drug, which writing is always to me.
If you were anywhere in her hometown, all you had to say was Ida and you were accepted. People would vie for her attention. desperate to tell their life stories to us, to get our treatment. Success was relatively easy. We were never bored.
She floored me that Christmas with so many perfect presents, many of which hang on my den wall. That was one of the best holidays of my life.
We lived relatively close to the local Fireman’s Festival. I offered my driveway to save parking bucks. I had a flag haning off the entrance. One day I noticed it had been rehung.
Ida.
She told me I had hung it incorrectly and they it hung signaled distress. That may have been true, hut she rehung it anyway.
Pure Ida.
When my oldest decided she wanted a military career, Ida and Gene arranged an appointment to the Naval Academy. It turned out Megs has an astigmatism and that disqualifies you.
But they were willing.
When I first got sick, she worried over me. She volunteered to be my driver, a Miss Daisy in reverse roles. As if she wasn’t already busy every waking minute. She crammed two or three lifetimes into her own, always with the pleasant southern drawl and smiling with her eyes. I can still hear that special voice and that is a blessing I carry forward.
After our Hometown news section was closed by bean counters, the start of newspapers giving up, she became an obituist and I learned a new word. When you pay for your obituaries in newspapers, someone had to write them and she did. She clued me in when a former great high school coach died. One of his assistants had become the dominant area coach, I called that guy.
He showed up at the funeral and was mobbed, thanked ever so much. Had I not called, he would have missed it. He thanked me and made me a lifetime friend, Ida’s touch had that kind of reach.
I know this is rambling. But it is kind like seeing an M80 ex-lode and catching it on film as it has its moment.
No one had a kinder heart. No one was more willing to share her knowledge and pride in her community. She left this word really better than she found it. I know she is one of my new angels in heaven. Once she straightens that place out, she’ll help me some more.
She has already come in my dreams to assure me She is watching me write still and offering advice. I feel safer.

I was shocked when I received the news... It has been a few years since I have seen either Ida, or Eugene. However, I remember them both well. Everything that was stated in Ida's obituary is 100% true. She was a kind, and welcoming person. Ida, and Eugene never hesitated to say hello to, and speak to me if we crossed paths in public. May Ida Chipman be received with open arms by our Lord, and Savior to dwell in the realm of our Almighty God forever more.

To Ida's surviving family I have this to say. May the Lord bless you, and keep you. May the Lord lift up his face to shine upon you, and be gracious to you. May the Lord lift up his continence upon you all, and bring you peace. Amen. Shalom Aleichem.

Sincerely,
