I did not know Maynard's last name until now. We didn't share the. In the meetings that I saw him in. Undoubtedly he was and remains a cornerstone of my program, of my sobriety. He did what many, many people could not or would not do. Hand himself over to a Higher Power and give himself to a simple program. I only wish I could see the celebration Heaven is having over this simple man who worked a simple program one day at a time. You know I love you Maynard.

I only knew Maynard and Carmen for two short months but they were easy to fall in love with...The nursing home at Millers Merry Manor was where I watched them follow each other around the nursing home and at other times give each other their space just to be. Maynard had this cough that some would think was a ploy for attention, which in some cases was. When Carmen had enough of his coughing she would say Maynard stop that, and he would that second. It would make you smile to watch the two of them interact in their home. Maynard always liked his sweets and pop a day. He loved three musketeers and often would get candy bars and share them with his favorite aides or nurses. When he died the next day I heard that Carmen handed out three musketeers to some employees. I am thankful to have been witness to such a sweet couple and hope that Carmen will find peace knowing that her love is home.
