Harley, Tom, and Steve = your mom was one of a kind and so many people loved her for her kindness and spirit. She was the kind of person every educator should endeavor to be. She added far more to this world than she took away. We were so glad that our path crossed hers in Plymouth. Our wishes for your comfort as you grieve and hope you are left with many happy memories that make you smile.

In His Love,

If my memory serves me right Mrs. Houghton was my kindergarten teacher in the old Ad. building next to the now Jr. Hi. Then it was the High School. Mrs. Houghton was my idol and watching her family grow up was a joy too. She and Tom were great parents and role models. Any of you in the class of 1960 remember those little rugs we took our naps on?

To Marjorie's family

What a great lady! Wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. From the time about 50 years ago, when I first met her, her smile, love, graciousness, and caring did shine through.

We had many good talks, laughs, thoughts that we shared.

May you all have the memories that sustain you at this time of sorrow.

To the Houghton Family.....
I was saddened to read of Marjorie's death. She was my kindergarten teacher at Washington School but only for the first semester. As I remember she left to have a baby or two...was that Tom & Harley? Bob and I send our deepest condolences for your loss.

Mrs. Houghton was my kindergarten teacher -- taught me to count to ten, perhaps higher. We each had a small rug, and she supervised our nap every day. Marge and Tom were close to my parents, always. Dad, too, actually, was born in Brook, and he worked in Rensselaer before coming to Plymouth. One story the Milners and Houghton's shared was the aftermath of Dad and Tom's attempt to buy the Ace Hardware in Plymouth from Ralph, the owner. They made their offer, and Ralph said he'd get back to them. Ralph never replied, and after that, when my dad and Tom met, they'd begin their conversation with, "Ralph got back to you yet?" Later, for a while, I got a job at Notre Dame, and car-pooled with Tom, who worked there. Knowing the two of them as an adult was a happy chapter in Marilyn's and my life. We'll certainly say a prayer for Marge and Tom and all the Houghtons. If we lived in Plymouth, instead of Canada, we'd say all this in person. Phil and Marilyn Milner

I knew them for a few years, and considered them friends, too.

Dear Tommie, Harley and Steve,

We were so saddened to hear of your Mom's passing. You've all shared so many great things about your Mom with us over the years.

I remember staying after school while your mom Marge and my mom Janelle were both fourth grade teachers at Washington grade school. They'd both be cleaning up their classrooms and grading papers and stuff while I did my homework.

I also remember that the Houghton Brothers lived right across the street from me on Lincoln Way East, but Marge would never let the boys cross the street, so unless I went over there to play, I would never see them!

She was a great lady and will be missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with your entire family as you grieve your Mom's passing, but also celebrate her life and legacy.

Lots of love,
John and Lindsay Parrett

Our sincere condolences to Marge's boys, Steve, Tom, and Harley and their families. We received the sad news of her passing as we were leaving for a long delayed trip to visit our son and his family. Tom and Marge were one of the first couples we came to know upon our move to Plymouth over 40 years ago. We will cherish Marge's memory as a faithful and loving person who loved God, loved others, and cared for others. We sincerely regret our inability to attend her services.

Tom, Alyse, and Ashley,
I'm sorry I was not able to make it to Marge's services. I remember her welcoming me to Washington School when I started teaching. She always had a big smile and a positive attitude. I was so blessed to have Ashley and Alyse in my class and then got to know Marge as a grandmother. Marge lived a good, long life. Peace to her memory.
