Susie helped my mother when she was still living in her own home and nearing a hundred years old. Susie was a sweetheart - always joking and happy and fun to be around. I will always remember her with a smile and appreciate the loving care she gave my mother. We send our sincere sympathy to her entire family.

Dear Swain Family, I'm so sorry for the loss of your Mom -- and your Dad too (sorry I just learned of it today). Us 'Buchanan kids' always felt welcome at your house growing up. The St. Joseph Holy Cross Nurse Alumnae Association wishes to express its sincere sympathy to the family of Susie Shaffer Swain. Susie was the second President of our organization (1967-70) and a loyal member. Our thoughts and prayers go out to you all. We have great memories from the old days in the neighborhood. To all the kids in the neighborhood Susie was like a Mother, Big Sister and even a disciplinarian when we needed it; which was quite often! Gods love to her and to all of you.

Please accept my sincere sympathy on the loss of your mother. I had the privilege of working with Susie for a short while many years ago. Mostly I remember the kind care she gave the residents at the nursing home and how much joy she brought to their lives. What a great lady. Madeline Johns
