Dear Martha and family,
I was in Miss Mather's PHS physical Ed class, graduated 1961. I remember cheerleader trips to Indiana University.
She became a good friend after my graduation. I cut her hair and gave a good shampoo which she looked forward to.
We also enjoined lunches at the Dairy Queen with her friend Edith. She shared many of her family stories with me.
My thoughts and prayers are with you.

To the family of Miss Mather,

I was saddened to learn of the passing of Miss Mather. I had her as my physical education teacher at PHS and always liked her. I was quite surprised to learn of her personal family history in that I had no knowledge of her missionary parents and her upbringing in Africa. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you during this sad time of loss.

I was in her class in the 50's. She was a good friend and very fair. I was lucky enough to be in GAA and got to travel on the volley ball team. She will be missed. My prayers are with her family.

To the family of Dorothy Mather,
I had Miss Mather all four years in high school as a teacher and a sponsor of our GAA. She drove us to many out of town
competitions and the one I remember most was when we won first place at an archery tournament. She took us all out
for burgers on the way home. I always admired her and wanted to express these thoughts to the family along with my
condolences. Judith A (Schoner) Sullivan, Avon, Indiana

So sorry for your loss. She was quite the lady and gave so much time to the girls of PHS. She coached everything, went on camping trips to the dunes and many other places and there will never be another like her. RIP Miss Marchers.

I was in GAA during high school (55-58) and remember traveling to towns to compete in various sports. I also remember a camping trip to McCormick's Creek State Park. I was pleased to be one of her teaching assistants for the junior high classes so I spent some extra time with her.

I ran into her at a restaurant in Plymouth a few years ago and we had a nice conversation. At that time, I conveyed to her how I appreciated her as a teacher. She seemed humbled but pleased by my praises. I'm so glad I got to tell her. She was a great teacher and coach and I am grateful for the wonderful memories she left with me. I extend my sincerest sympathies to her family.

Miss Mather is certainly one of the teachers everyone knew who attended PHS! I am glad I got to know her as a friend after those school experiences. I recently worked for the Marshall County Travel Board for the November election. I was in the hall of nursing home where she resided and we caught each others eye. Dorothy had that old spark and knew who I was. We had a nice little visit. I am happy for her to be free of the earthly limitations she has lived with! My sympathy to all who grieve her loss.

Dorothy was very instrumental in girls' athletics at PHS and gave freely of her time to promote girls' sports. I admired her for donating her time and effort so that we could play on competitive teams.

To Dorothy's Family and Plymouth High School Community

I want to express my sympathies to you and say what a grand lady! I had the honor of teaching and coaching for her while at PHS from 1974-75 thru 1977-78 school years. She created one of THE BEST physical education and athletic programs for girls for that time period. And, I believe that has continued there.

She was such a classy, professional and had a wonderful sense of humor. We had many good times in my short time with her. I could tell a few stories!

She was a wonderful friend and mentor for me and our friendship continued after I left there to this day. We exchanged Christmas Greetings all these years.

I feel an empty spot as I write this and I feel honored and privileged to have known her.

To my Great Aunt Dorothy,

We will miss you deeply. Thank you for a lifetime of memories. I enjoyed so many interesting and fun stories while putting together puzzles and overlooking the lake. I remember being a little boy and being so excited to go visit you in the summers and on holidays. And equally so, when your van showed up in our driveway, it drew a big smile on my face. You always showed up with chocolate turtles and frozen custard. Thank you for hosting unforgettable family reunions so that our families could celebrate together.

Thank you all for your condolences.

With Love,

To the family,

I, too, had Miss Mather as a gym teacher. Our paths crossed again several years ago when I visited my mother-in-law in the nursing home and noticed the name "Dorothy Mather" on the resident board. I stopped in her room and she was just as friendly as I remember from high school. On a subsequent visit, I made a pie for my mother-in-law and took a piece in to Dorothy's room. I asked her if she wanted a piece of pie, to which she replied "yes". Then I asked her if she wanted some whipped cream too. Her response was "Of course. What's pie without whipped cream"? I also had the pleasure of meeting Alyce on one visit. To Alyce and the entire family, I offer my condolences. She truly was a very remarkable woman and will be missed.

I' sorry to be so late with this. I knew Dorothy for many years and we met several times each year with others who were GAA sponsors in those days. I taught in Rochester from 1954 to 1963 and we maintained our friendship for many years following that time. We have now lost two of our "buddies"--Bede Weirick and now Dorothy Mather. They will be missed, but not forgotton. Marion J. Rieger Eller, Kokomo, IN

I had a dream last night about Miss Mather. On a whim I googled her only to find that she just passed away 10 days ago. I wish I could have visited her. She was the sponsor of the cheerleaders 1962-1963. Donna Summerlin, Janis John,
Mary Ed Horner, Karen Rankin, and myself.. We also took a camping trip to McCormicks Creek State Park. What fun we had.
I went to Purdue. Wish I'd known at the time that Miss Mather also went there. I'd love to know when her memorial service might be. She was one of my best memories at PHS.

I am so glad I got to know Miss Mather well enough to call her by her first name, but I found that really difficult to do! She was quite a traveler and enjoyed many trips with another friend of mine, Mildred Keller. They also loved to fish on Lake of the Woods.

The last time I saw Dorothy, was in the manor before the fall election. I represent one-half of the Travel Board, and were there to "vote" residents. As I glanced past the rows of residents that lined the hall, our eyes met. She smiled in recognition. We exchanged pleasantries and chatted about how she was feeling, etc. I am so happy now that she is free of those earthly limitations and on that final journey home!
