I was not only a customer of Jeff's, for approximately 20 years, but also, and more importantly, a friend. He always had a smile on his face and greeted everyone with a warm handshake. He will be missed. A true Texas gentleman. Rest in Peace Jeff.

Just yesterday, March 14, 2015, I learned of Jeff's passing and wanted to express my heartfelt condolences to his family.

My wife Dana and I met Jeff on June 20, 2009, while he was exhibiting a table of his finest custom-made knives at a Knife Show in Market Hall, Dallas. It was shortly after my birthday, and we were looking for my birthday present. It was my good fortune to stop at Jeff's table, where we were greeted with a warm smile by a man of impressive stature, wearing a battered old cowboy hat. We were both impressed with the quality of his workmanship; each knife was more beautiful than the next. Jeff patiently explained the differences in the materials he used and how he built each knife to endure a lifetime of vigorous usage. Before the day was over, I was the proud owner of three of the finest hunting knives on the planet. In the years since, I found Jeff at various shows by looking for a giant of a man wearing a tattered old hat. With each meeting, I was met with the same friendly smile and the shake of a hand as big as a bear. No matter how busy, he always found time to treat me like a long lost friend.

Jeff was an honest man, who was true to his word, took pride in his work, and was gifted with the talent to make a difference. Like many men, he left a legacy of family and friends, but unlike many, Jeff's legacy includes hundreds, maybe thousands of hand-made knifes that will continue to delight the eyes and serve the sportsman of today, as well as those yet to be born, but fortunate enough to inherit a custom knife by J.L. Hollett.

For the remainder of my days, I will miss Jeff each time I see one of his wonderful knives. I can?t help but think that each time I enter a gun or knife show, I?ll be looking for a giant of a man in a tattered old hat. Good bye my friend; until we meet on the other side, Jon Ciarletta
