Condolences

Our sympathy goes out to the entire Nelson family, but especially to Mick. Gordie was a friend to all who knew him and will surely be missed by all who knew him. I especially want to express my appreciation for his kindness to Patrick. He picked him up many mornings and delivered him to Marshall-Starke while I was teaching. He was a kind and generous man.

Sincerely,

Joan, Patrick, and Dick Joyce

I was very sad to hear of the death of Gordy. I remember that every Sunday, I would have to give him an update of the past weeks sports events. It would make me feel very special when he would ask how my teams had preformed during the week. This seemed to start when I started to play Little League baseball and football and continued to my playing on the high school tennis team. I am sure that he already new some of the results in later years by looking at the paper but it didn't matter, we always talked. Later, he also made sure that I knew what to do when I took on the duties of ushering for the balcony and also for the early church. I can't remember a time of attending the church when Gordon wasn't standing in the back ready to greet you with a smile as you came up the stairs.
Mom and Dad always talked with fondness of the fishing trips that were made to his cabin and the wonderful times that they had.

I know that he will be missed, but the great memories of him will help you all during this difficult time. May the thought of Gordon joining Wayne and other departed members in heaven and being with the Father, bring you Peace and Joy.

Saddened to hear of Gordy's passing. He was a wonderful man who touched so many lives. Growing up on Ewing Street, I spent many afternoons playing at Mick and Gordy's house. He was my father's best friend, and they spent many years ushering together at church. I'm sure Dad is waiting at the pearly gates to usher Gordy in! Love to his family!
