I was so sorry to read that Mr. Holloway passed away. I always enjoyed talking to him at Washington School at the events, when Larry was the principal, and also at the tennis courts, when his grandsons played. He was always kind and interesting to talk to. He reminded me of my G'pa and always made me smile.

My thoughts and prayers go out to your family as you walk this journey. I hope you have many happy moments sharing what a great man he was. I'm sure the stories are pure gold!

Having moved to town as a 6th grader in the late 60's I knew very few people in town. Fishing alone at Pretty Lake just days after arriving in town I was approached by this guy named "Pops" who took the time to show me some hot spots and give me a few lures to use. 45 years later I look back on that moment and cherish the friendship plus mentoring Frank Holloway provided. Fishing trips to Canada, countless hundreds of miles floating the Yellow River, fishing trips to Michigan, mushroom hunting, stories of monster pike, huge bass and hearing him talk of his family were all topics he enjoyed. Plymouth High School sports were special for me with a handshake from Pops before or after a game. His support and never ending pride in any of the Plymouth sports team was never ending. Frank was looking forward to the upcoming Rockie's football season. He showed great compassion to my parents as their lives were winding down. CR and Mags were touched by his kindness. He was truly a diamond in the rough, the mold was broken when Frank was born and he was truly a special special man. 99 years old, ohhh what a life this man had, what changes he witnessed in the world and how many lives he touched! Life well lived my friend. I for one will never forget you.

Loved this mans passion for Plymouth sports and his candid analysis during and following the game. I remember several years following Pops into town at 5AM as I was headed in to meet the run group and he was headed to breakfast with his friends. I remmber thinking to myself that is great that a man over 90 years old can still meet his friends for breakfast at 5:30AM in the morning. A life well lived! He will be missed.

Having essentially grown up at the Holloway house on Pretty Lake with Gordy, especially during the summer, Pops was always a part of my life. Whether it was at a ball game, 5 a.m. waking up in the Holloway's living room to him wishing me a, "Good morning, time to get up," or great chats in the car on the way into get coffee, Pops knew how to put a smile on my face. This was especially the case at baseball games when did not agree with an official's call--"Get in the game!"

To all the Holloways, I wish you the best in this difficult time. Pops was an incredible guy, and I am so grateful to have gotten the opportunity to share so many memories with him. Thank you.

My first recollection of Pops was when I was playing 7th grade football on the old Lincoln Field. It seemed as though he attended every practice, and the next year the same thing happened because Larry was our 8th grade football coach. Later when my kids played football, ran track or played volleyball Frank was there. He made my daughter one of his special ice fishing poles. He remembered every kid and every play! Our condolences to Larry and all of the family, Pops will be remembered fondly by countless people!

A friend! That is what he was. Jerry always had a laugh and good stories about Pops. He came over when "the boys" were remodeling my kitchen and Shannon was a little thing, but she always liked pops and told him so. He learned that she needed a fishing rod...she told him so.....so, he made her one and brought it to her.

I never missed the opportunity to have a good talk with him and he would remind me, if he had not seen me for a little while.

Will miss that "crusty" attitude, knowledge, and says that he always seemed to enjoy.

He had great grandchildren. I hope they can remember how he was. god Bless.

Larry and Family, Larry and I are saddened to read of Frank's passing. Wow he saw some changes in his lifetime. Every time, back when we lived in Plymouth, rounding that curve on 17 I would glance over at his house and see is he was sitting in the yard so I could wave at him. What a orney smile he had but always on top of the world. He was one of the good guys and a great support of Plymouth sports. Cherish those memories forever and don't let your wonderful kids forget him.

Dear Larry & Family,

How sad our "Pop" of sunshine is gone. Seems I just saw him setting on his steps with two of the boys. He was a legend in his own time.....
May he soar with the angels!!

Early one late spring morning 1973 a couple of friends and I were fishing the Pretty lake inlet in hopes of catching this one particular huge Bass when this elderly man appeared from nowhere with Fishing Pole in tote. We explained our unsuccessful quest and he assured us he could catch this Fish. We watched him bait his hook with two big night crawlers proceeded by a cast just a few feet from the shoreline. He opened his Bail and stepped back a few yards and waited. It wasn?t but a couple minutes later that his Line began to slip from his Reel. He let the fish take his Bait for a while and then he locked in the Bail, reeled in a bit of Line and made a long, tall sweep of his Pole. We watched in amazement as his Pole bent over like we have never seen before. What a spectacle it was for sure. He brought that Huge Bass in and we were in Awe. He told us it was about 4 or 5 Pounds but we thought more like 7 or 8 Pounds. He was our Hero from that day on. We found out later that summer his name was ?Pops?, Pops Holloway, father of our Art Teacher Larry Holloway.
Larry and Family, My thoughts and prayers are with you. May God comfort you in this time of sadness.

Larry and Family,

Although my father passed very early, not only in his life but in mine as well, I can recall some of the fishing events Mom used to talk about with Dad, Pops, and Kelso Holm. Those three were the bluegill kings of Marshall County. If you look through any of the fishing snaps, you just might find one of my Dad and Pops. What treasures we have. And what wonderful memories we both can share when Mom would visit Mildred and Pops and we would play in the backyard catching butterflies. Loved your parents.

God's blessings and peace to you at this very difficult time,
Love, Wanda Clark

To all of the Holloway family and Frank's friends and loved ones....I am so sorry for your loss.

Frank was a wonderful man and a good friend to Casey and to me. He often helped Casey with projects and worked so hard. We would go to lunch on occasion and Frank always told the most interesting and delightful stories. He crafted a handmade fishing rod for me once which was absolutely beautiful. Frank was so kind and thoughtful.

He was a fine hard working man that knew what it meant to be a good friend.

Everyone will miss him.

We knew Frank "Pops" from my son's restaurant Shaggy's Diner. Many a morning he was there waiting to come on in after the doors were opened. On the very cold mornings before it was time to open up my son would go out and get Frank and Fred and tell them it was too cold to be out there waiting. He would have the coffee hot and ready but not before Frank would stand over the register by the front door letting the heat warm him up a bit. Nick loved listening to all the stories and asked to hear as many stories he possibly could. He was a bright spot in our mornings and every once in a while he would drop in around closing time for a piece of pie. It was our honor and pleasure to have known and shared some time with Pops. Nick can catch up with Pops in heaven!! I hope it is not alot of sadness you feel but joy that your "Pops" was loved and admired and special to so many people. I hope the memories will keep you smiling!! God Bless!!

I so enjoyed reading the other messages here as many captured the essence of what I have observed Pops Holloway to be. He was a classic example of the "greatest generation" and I so hope the generations of "kids" that have had the privilege of sharing his life understand what that means. He had his priorities right... He treated all the same... He was loyal... He lived simply and fully... May the memories he left be a comfort in this time of loss... A life well lived for sure... a legacy to many many others... What more could one hope for... Prayers to all of you at this tender time...
