Kenneth H. Kiel

November 28, 1938 - July 23, 2013

 

       Kenneth H. “Ken” Kiel, 74, a Plymouth resident for the past 51 years, passed away in Kindred Hospital, Mishawaka, IN., following a short and unexpected illness, at 6:31 p.m. on Tuesday, July 23, 2013.
      
       Born in Clintonville, Wisconsin on November 28, 1938, Ken was the son of William and Lucille (Jeffries) Kiel.
      
       He graduated from Bourbon High School with the Class of 1956.
      
       On May 26, 1962, in Our Lady of Hungary Catholic Church, South Bend, sweethearts, Ken and Sandra K. Eberly were married.
      
       For many years Ken worked for American Finance before becoming self-employed with many successful businesses and several real estate endevors. A lifelong entrepreneur, Ken had a gift of endless energy and shared that to the benefit of others.
      
       A Notre Dame fan, he enjoyed golf, water and snow skiing, league bowling and he rarely missed Monday Duplicate Bridge Club. From the time Ken and Sandra met square dancing they continued their love of dancing together and regularly attended ballroom dancing in South Bend.
      
       A member of St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church, he was an usher and member of the Knights of Columbus. A former president of the Plymouth Jaycees, where he was honored as a JCI International Senator. Ken was also a member of the Plymouth Moose Lodge No. 741 and a Sons of the American Legion.
      
       Ken is survived by his wife, Sandy and their children: daughter, Lori A. (Shawn) Antell, Indianapolis, and their children Caryn and Ashley Kiel: son, Daniel K. Kiel, Florida: daughter, Amy L. (Donn) Yoder, Plymouth, and their children, Morgan Lee, Zachary Lee, Alexandra Yoder, NoahYoder and Lauren Yoder.
      
       A great-grandson, Kenneth "Kenny" Lee, was a bright light in Ken’s life.
      
       In addition, Ken is survived by four brothers: Fred (Linda) Kiel, Elkhart, Curt Kiel and Jane, Bremen, Bob (Sharon) Kiel, Thomson, GA. and Jim (Kathi) Kiel, Tucson, AZ.
      
       Two sisters survive together with numerous nieces and nephews. They are Nancy (Larry) Pittman, Osseo, WI. and Kay (Gary) Grise, Tucson, AZ.
      
       Ken now enjoys the embrace of his son, Michael Kenneth Kiel who went before him on January 18, 1964. Two brothers, Bill Kiel and Lee Kiel and a sister, Pat Schiffer, have also died.
      
       Visitation for Ken will be held on Friday, July 26th from 3 to 8 p.m. at the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth.
      
       A funeral Mass of Christian Burial, will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 27th, in St. Michael's Catholic Church, 604 N. Center Street, Plymouth. Fr. William Kummer and Fr. John Korcsmar C.S.C. will officiate.
      
       Interment will be in St. Michael Cemetery, Plymouth.
      
       Memorial gifts in Ken’s memory may be given to St. Michael Church, 612 N. Center St, Plymouth, IN 46563, the Center for Hospice Care at 112 S. Center St, Plymouth or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
